Osaka people take pride in their dialect and humor. If you try using even one Osaka phrase like おおきに or めっちゃ, locals will light up. The city’s comedy culture (お笑い, owarai) is built on the “straight man and funny man” (ツッコミ and ボケ) duo format, and なんでやねん is the classic ツッコミ punchline.

Deep Dive 深掘り
Station numbering systems (駅ナンバリング) were introduced to help international visitors. Each line has a letter code (JY = JR Yamanote, M = Marunouchi, G = Ginza, etc.) and each station has a number. The numbers increase in one direction. If your destination is M15 and you are at M08, you know which direction to go and how many stops remain. This system works across Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and most major cities.
